Today's Route (Day 138)

York, Nebraska. Today's wintry mix should be fun to walk through. My gear and my mind are ready, starting in York and heading to Aurora (25mi). I will attempt to camp-out tonight, if it doesn't work out I'll check into a motel.

After Aurora I'll be heading through the following Nebraskan towns: Grand Island, Alda, Wood River, Shelton, Gibbon, Kearney, Elm Creek, Smithfield, Elwood, Stockville, Palisade, Hamlet, Wauneta, Enders, Imperial, and then Lamar.

Too bad I was on vacation and not following you when you were heading to Aurora. Aurora has an interesting sight, the Edgerton Science center. When I first saw this, I wondered - could this be Doc Edgerton? Might he have been from Aurora?

Doc Edgerton was very active when I was in college at MIT. He was always welcoming to students, to come in his lab and discuss ideas. He was the inventor of high speed photography: many of the amazing images you've probably seen are his (or his students). IIRC, you're interested in visual arts / photography and Doc was a real pioneer, plus influenced many students and was a hero to us.

You might have seen the museum and you might have heard of Edgerton but I thought you might be interested in case you didn't already have the story.

p.s. on my "virtual" bike ride (stationary bike miles converted onto mapped route) that I started on 1Jan in Boston, I'm just at Aurora today. As you're a cyclist you know it's easier to crank the miles on a bike than walking so I plan to be in California before you'll make it. Maybe I'll "ride" down from SF to LA to meet up.
