DuBois, PA. Pictured with me is Jeff Clyde, a God fearing man, a new frequent walker, and the owner of several Subway restaurants in the DuBois area.

He and his staff were a cheerful, humorous bunch, and took great interest in my journey.

Jeff, whose brother traveled the US via motorcycle (an experience he said his brother would never do again), offered me great advice, his contact info, some spiritual literature, and also my meal on the house.

I give Jeff and his team much thanks! This was all unexpected and definitely put me in great spirits for the entire day.

State College, PA. Other than being an honorary Dominican (like myself) and many interests (like myself), Emily is awesome!

Busy with work and studying for her post-graduate degree in landscape architecture, she still found time to have me as a guest in her home for TWO days!

I truly enjoyed Emily's personality, hospitality, and indeed her cooking.

Centre Hall, PA. These are the two cheerful superstars that sold me the cheeseburger that fueled my 12-mile walk/run dash from Centre Hall to State College.

Without them I would have gone tired, lost focus, and gotten hit by a 55 wheeler. I thank them both and hope their boss recognizes their keen customer focus and gives them double raises and a month vacation!

Berwick, PA. This is Laura & Michael Bobersky, the gracious hosts of "The White Birch Inn" a classy bed & breakfast located in Berwick.

With backgrounds in education and two wonderful kids the couple decided to go the entrepreneur route and open not one but two bed & breakfast inns which are both doing quite well.

When I arrived I was so grateful that they accepted me as a late walk-in, offered me fantastic room (which I should have photographed) at a great rate, and provided food including Laura's homemade baked goods. I wish them much luck in their growing business, this was certainly my best hotel stay!

Journal - Day 17 (SUN, 12/9/12)

State College, PA.

-Pennsylvania is awesome, but I hope my thoughts of someday working on a farm leave soon.. cause those that know me know I'll do it!

-Woke up from a great sleep in Bald Eagle Park.  That park is freakin' huge!!!

-Walked 35 miles from Bald Eagle Park, PA to state College, PA.

-Walking through the forest for 2-hours at 2:30am was a little nerve racking

-Amish country was very interesting.  I waved or exchanged greetings with each one I saw, they actually travel pretty fast in those horse buggies.

-Dodging the Amish's horse poo on the streets was tiring.

-Ate a very delicious breakfast at The Millheim Hotel.  I had scarmbed eggs, bacon, home fries, toast, waffles, and orange juice -- all for under $10 (not including tip). I gave props to the cook, who later that night drove by me and told me thank you and also offered me a ride which I declined.

-Saw a whole lotta cows & bulls today which was cool.  Some where brave enough to approach me while others wither starred or ran off.

-Climbed a mound of carrots.

-After a full day of walking and fresh burger and 5-hour in my system I ran the last 6 miles in the dark rainy streets with my 50-pound bag on to College Park, PA.  Extremely difficult task, but I enjoyed it -- especially the puzzled look from on-lookers.

-I reached State College depleted, met with Emily (whom I will talk about later), and slept like a baby.  I won't be doing another 35-miles anytime soon.

Centre Hall, PA. Yesterday I discovered three huge piles of carrots that were just dumped in someone's parking lot, possibly to be stripped and processed later.
